Porcelain Veneers
As a prosthodontic specialist, we offer expert cosmetic restorations like porcelain veneers. Dental veneers are ideal for scenarios where people feel unhappy about the way their teeth look. From the size of specific teeth to their overall colour, veneers can transform your entire “smile zone” and what’s visible to other people.
Why Do You Want Veneers?
The key to providing exceptional porcelain veneers treatment is to truly understand the priorities and concerns of each patient. Your needs and goals are different than everyone else. Based on your lifestyle, age and other influencing factors, veneers may be the perfect choice for your future smile. We want to ensure your goals are attainable before deciding whether veneers can help you reach them.
Benefits of Veneers
The unique design of veneers allows them to mask the healthy tooth behind each respective restoration. As we bond them across the front of your visible teeth, we can immediately hide the effects of
- Severe stain
- Tooth misalignment, gaps and crowding
- Irregular tooth shape and size
- Worn, chipped enamel
- Naturally dark tooth enamel
More severe tooth wear or fractures may require a crown for additional reinforcement. However, veneers are less invasive than conventional crowns as they cover a smaller surface area and require less tooth reduction.
Veneers last an average of 10-20 years. If you’re fairly young, you may need 2-3 sets of veneers in a lifetime. Older adults may only need one set. The financial investment is one worth considering.
The number of veneers you need will depend on how many teeth are visible when you smile. The average number of veneers a patient gets is anywhere from 6-10 per jaw, depending on what they want to change.
To place a veneer, we’ll need to shave just a small layer of enamel away to make room. Although not difficult, it does permanently alter the shape of your tooth.
Are your teeth shaped and coloured relatively appropriate? Something less invasive like orthodontic therapy and whitening may be preferred. Although repositioning your teeth may take a year or more, your enamel will remain pristine and untouched. If braces aren’t an option, then veneers can be an excellent choice.
Our specialty practice is equipped with an in-house lab and ceramist, allowing us to completely oversee the design and fit of each veneer. Custom shading and on-site adjustments allow for a truly impeccable experience for maximum aesthetics. You may even be able to preview our proposed veneer design on a diagnostic model prior to scheduling treatment.
The porcelain we use on our veneers is extremely durable. But to ensure their fullest potential, we highly recommend sleeping in a nightguard or bite splint. This protective device will minimise wear or chipping caused by night-time teeth grinding.
Like teeth, veneers need to be brushed and flossed each day. Take care to clean carefully along the gumlines, where plaque is heaviest. Although the veneer will not decay, the tooth behind it can. Use a non-abrasive toothpaste and soft toothbrush to clean them twice per day. Six-monthly cleans are also essential, as your veneers can accumulate stain and plaque buildup similar to tooth enamel.
